Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive study on the physical, chemical, and microstructural characteristics of recycled and commercial cellulose fibre pellets; both unmodified and cellulose-modified bitumen emulsions; and their residual bitumen. The study briefly explores the size, shape, and texture of the fibres before analysing their chemical composition and water absorptive properties respectively at 2 different temperature cycles used to simulate a temperate and tropical climate. The study further explores the interaction between the fibre and emulsion including the fibre’s absorptive and coating characteristics when submerged in bitumen emulsion. Overall, the findings of this study provide valuable insight into the fundamental properties of these materials for their potential use within cold mix asphalt specimens.
