Abstract
Experiments have been performanced to conduct rapid assessment of the mixing layer between an emergent vegetation zone and a free flow zone. It is shown that a traditional drag force equation can work well above a volume fraction of around 3% vegetation, and that a simple hyperbolic tangent function approximates the velocity profile in most cases to within 1% of a more complex segmented regression method.
