Abstract

This thesis outlines the approach to Group Technology by the application of a Classification and Coding System Practical surveys have been carried out and these surveys illustrate the techniques used, the codes developed,
methods of analysis, conclusions reached and lastly recomendations made for future work.

In addition to the practical report, a comprehensive literature survey is included, detailing all aspects of Group Technology, from methods of implementation to a full description of its benefits and effects on industry. Wide use is made of flow charts, photographs, drawings and tables to support the text and thus present as clear a picture as possible.

Appendix 4 includes a Group Technology Questionnaire which was distributed to some 180 firms in the U.K. and on the continent. Details of results of this questionnaire are not available at the time of writing, but indications are, that approximately 25 to 30 percent will be returned.
