Abstract

A study was performed as an investigation to determine the dynamic response, natural frequencies and modal shapes of a spring-supported flexible platform. Both theoretical and experimental approaches have been used in the investigation. Finite Element Methods were used in the theoretical analysis. The purpose of the study was to ascertain the vibration characteristics and dynamic responses of the platform in order to elucidate the conditions which favoured the build-up of excessive vibration, especially when the rig was excited by more than one force, i.e. with different speed ratios.
