New Aspects in Organotellurium Halide Chemistry

Abstract

A literature review of the known chemistry of organotellurium fluorides and iodides is presented.

The synthesises of new organotellurium iodides (RTel and RTel3), where R = 2-(2-
pyridyl)phenyl- and 2-phenylazophenyl- have been reported. It is suggested on the
basis of spectroscopic examination (NMR, Mass and Raman) that the oxidation state of tellurium in these “tri-iodides” species is (II).

Attempts to synthesise RTeF and RTeF; (R = 2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl- and 2-
phenylazophenyl-) are reported. The NUR (19F and 125Te) and analytical data for these materials are reported and discussed.
