Abstract

Hydrostatic bearings possess the desirable features of low frictional resistance, high load capacity and high stiffness even at zero speed. Consequently they find use over a wide field of applications.

The present investigation is concerned with methods of predicting the performance characteristics of multi-port hydrostatic journal bearings operating under steady state conditions. Analytical predictions are made, based on the laminar flow through the bearing of an incompressible isoviscous fluid.
