The Aston Institute of Materials Research (AIMR) is a multidisciplinary group comprising chemists, biologists, physicists, chemical engineers, polymer scientists, process and formulation engineers, mathematicians, theoreticians, mechanical engineers and nanotechnologists. AIMR has a strong record of successful international collaboration, extensive scientific expertise and a record of innovations in materials research and training. There is a strong presence of international students and scientists in AIMR. AIMR has a strong track record carrying out world leading multidisciplinary fundamental and applied research and in training researchers from across the world.

 

Expertise in AIMR is in polymers, nanomaterials, inorganics, composites (including nanocomposites), bitumen and, through extensive collaboration with EBRI (European Bioenergy Research Institute), biomass. AIMR researchers work closely with industrial collaborators on a wide range of applied projects, from photovoltaics, biomedical implants and devices, water purification, rubber technology and catalysis, with particular focus on Sustainability and Healthcare.
