Research Interests

My work examines the psychosocial   influences of chronic hearing conditions. This extends from individual level   responses (modelling coping) to institutional and cultural influences on   hearing services (for example in residential care settings). My work in shared decision making in Audiology has been internationally recognised and my group have produced Decision Aids to support decision making in hearing care and tinnitus care.

Teaching Activity

I teach accross undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Audiology at Aston. I am the Programme Director for the Hearing Therapy suite of postgraduate programmes.

PhD Supervision

I am supervising projects in the experience of hearing loss in social contexts. In particular:

The prevalence, impact and support needs of families and children with long-term otitis

media with effusion and hearing loss

 

I am the Programme Director for the Doctor of Hearing Therapy  Professional Doctorate programme.

Membership of Professional Bodies

I am a member of the British Acadamy of Audiology & British Society of Audiology.

I contribute to the Academic partnership between Aston University and the IDA Institute in Denmark.

I am registered as a Hearing Therapist with the RCCP

 

I have recently held roles as a Trustee of the British Society of Audiology and a Professional Advisory Committee member for the British Tinnitus Association.
