Research areas: the role of Tissue Transglutaminase in fibrotic diseases, cancer and pathological angiogenesis, and the application of transglutaminase-crosslinked collagen as a novel biomaterial for wound healing and bone regeneration.

    Personal profile

    Research Interests

Dr Zhuo Wang (ZW), Early Career Academic, has over 13 year working experience in the field of Transglutaminase. Her research has been involved in establishing the importance of the protein crosslinking enzyme tissue transglutaminase (TG2) in cell adhesion through its interaction with fibronectin and cell surface syndecans. This has subsequently resulted in characterisation of the heparin binding site on TG2 and its importance in the translocation of TG2 into the ECM where many of its pathological events important to human disease occur. ZW’s current work is focused on the pathological role of Tissue Transglutaminase in human diseases, including pathological angiogenesis (such as tumour angiogenesis), cancer metastases (especially colon cancer) and fibrosis (including lung, heart and cystic fibrosis).
