Abstract

This chapter summarises the complex current relationship between the UK and the EU in the area of internal security and the direct and indirect consequences that Brexit could have for different aspects of this field. There is little doubt that the risks of breakdown in cooperation vastly outweigh the security opportunities that Brexit presents. The reflections this book offers have not only revealed the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the two negotiating parties, but also provided a glimpse of how politically and legally challenging, as well as technically complex, security negotiations will be, especially as internal security is closely intertwined with other policy fields, namely the Internal Market.
