The strength and behaviour of the edge column-slab connection of a flat plate under different loading conditions, taking account of the column shape in calculation of the shearing capacity of the slab, was studied. The programme was to obtain data to be used for establishing a method for analysis of this connection.A test programme was undertaken to obtain information about the behaviour and strength of such connections. A total number of 15 specimens were tested under loads gradually increasing to failure.A method for the prediction of the ultimate capacity of edge slab-column connections is developed. This theoretical analysis is applied to other available slab tests and compared with the experimental findings.Good agreement is obtained between the test and calculated loads. A number of conclusions are drawn from these comparisons as well as from the experimental observations. Some suggestions are also made for further research on the subject.
