I am willing to supervise projects on fibre optical sensor and sensing, laser microfabrication, mid infrared spectroscopy.

    Personal profile

    Research Interests

My research covers photonic technology areas including optical fibre devices, sensors and system integration, optical communication, optical fibre Bragg grating, micro/nano photonic devices, biophotonic, label-free biosensor, chemsensor, optical waveguide theory, fibre laser, semiconductor laser, ultrafast fast laser and micromachining. With a strongly application-oriented research and close collaboration with industries like BAe, Airbus and SMEs, I have been the investigator or principle researcher on a number of large research and development programmes, including InnovateUK projects and ERDF projects. The research output has been outstanding with 200 publications, 2409 citations and google H-index of 29

    Highlights:

    • Tilted fibre grating technologies
    • Femtosecond laser micro-machining of optical fibre for photonic and microfluidic devices
    • Innovative exploitation of label-free biosensor for fast, sensitive and real-time detection of DNA.
    • In-fibre polariser fibre using 45 tilted fibre Bragg grating.
