    General

Professor Doran has over 40 years experinece in research spanning solid state physics nonlinear optics and optical communications. He has led teams of researcher in British Telecom, Aston university Marconi-Solstis, Swansea university and Aston AIPT. He currently has several projects in the area f nonlinear fibre amplfiers and wide band transmission. He is the PI and CI on several EPSRC projects and has an h index of over 50. He is well known for the invension of the NOLM and disprion manged solitons. He led the team which installed the world's longest high speed optical system across Australia in 2003.
