Nii is a Senior Lecturer in Quantity Surveying within the Engineering Systems & Management Group of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, Aston University, Birmingham. He has been active in construction management research over the last 15 years.

Nii has been successful in securing the following grants/awards:

• A Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions-Individual Fellowship [Proposal number: 837721 Pre-COSH] for €224,933.76 to investigate Models of Practice in the Management of Occupational Safety and Health Risks During the Pre-Construction Period (2019 – 2021).
• €568,000 component of an €8.998M INTERREG IVB North West Europe C2C BIZZ project (2011 – 2015):- C2C BIZZ was a collaboration of 11 European partners in the North-Western area with the objective to enhance the implementation of Cradle to Cradle (C2C) methods on new and existing business sites. Nii was responsible for delivering two work packages on economic models and socio-cultural barriers to implementation of C2C on business sites as Principal Researcher.
• £4,978 from an Early Researcher Award Scheme (ERAS) funded by the University of Wolverhampton for research into effects of accident occurrence.

Nii is an Incorporate Member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) currently working towards full membership. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Nii teaches a range of quantity surveying, contract administration and management, and project/programme management modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. At undergraduate level, he currently teaches construction costing and procurement, and contract administration and dispute resolution. He has in the past also taught measurement of building and civil engineering works to construction and civil engineering students, contractual procedures, and delivered a work based learning module. His postgraduate level teaching covers contract management, financial management of projects, strategic management of programmes, and research methods. He has in the past also overseen the MSc Dissertation module. Beyond that, he also provides specialist input into other modules when required. For instance, he contributed a lecture on Cradle to Cradle in the demolition sector to a Demolition Management module based on the results of an EU funded project on which he was Principal Investigator.

He has further experience of postgraduate level teaching at the University of the West of England (UWE) and Coventry University where he delivered modules on Construction Project Management Practice and Pre-Contract Management Practice respectively.

His teaching extends overseas to a range of trans-national (TNE) programmes in Sri Lanka and China where the mode of delivery is flying faculty and Singapore where the mode is supported delivery.

He also undertakes all administrative duties associated with teaching including internal moderation duties, participation in Boards and dealing with External Examiners.

He is currently Programme Director for all ESM's undergraduate construction programmes.

Over the past 10 years he has successfully supervised 7 PhD students working on a variety of projects in the areas of health and safety, supply chain management, waste management and dispute resolution among others. All these students have progressed on to successful academic careers at the University of Manchester, Coventry University, Nottingham Trent University, Birmingham City University, and Robert Gordon University. He has also supervised 3 Research Assistants who worked on the EU funded INTERREG IVB North West Europe C2CBIZZ project (2011-2015) and an internally funded project.

Nii has 15+ years research experience in the areas of organisational behaviour and project management. Many of his projects in the past 10 years have focused on improving project performance through better health and safety management, more effective management of resources and supply chain management. He has also overseen research in dispute resolution practices and procedures. His research has embraced a myriad of research methods and designs that have equipped him with extensive experience of both qualitative and quantitative research. He has written or been involved in the writing of the proposals underpinning most of these research projects, and secured funding both internally and externally by competition to undertake these projects. Among these projects are: (i) an EU funded €8.998M INTERREG IVB North West Europe C2C BIZZ project (2011-2015) (€568K component) on which he was a Principal Investigator delivering two major work packages (see http://www.c2cbizz.com/about-c2cbizz.html); (ii) fully funded PhD projects on corporate manslaughter, construction and demolition waste management, and dispute resolution; and (iii) part funded PhD projects on health and safety in construction and supply chain management practices. He has overseen the successful delivery of all these projects. His most recent success is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship grant on health and safety risk management.
