Abstract
Discusses the rise of shadow banking, with particular reference to its use in securitisation. Examines the provision of credit outside the traditional banking sector, the popularity of shadow banking in China, the regulatory difficulties associated with its operation, the extent of shadow banking's role in the 2007-2009 financial crisis, and whether it has the capacity to trigger another financial crisis.
