Abstract

A travelling-wave, single-frequency erbium fibre laser based around a Sagnac-type loop is presented. Feedback was provided by a fibre grating in one arm of the cavity (reflectivity ∼ 55%, centred at 1.530 μm), and a 50% reflector in the other. Output powers as high as 1.6 mW were recorded with a spectral linewidth of less than 37 kHz (resolution limited).
