Hiro is Senior Lecturer in Innovation at Economics, Finance and Entrepreneurship Department, Aston Business School. He has a PhD from University of California at Berkeley and international experience in research and consultancy in the field of innovation and regional economic development.  The clients of his previous research projects include Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), Department of Trade and Industry, Department of the Environment, Scottish Enterprise, and South East England Development Agency. Along with Robert Huggins, he has published Competition, Competitive Advantage, and Clusters: The Ideas of Michael Porter (Oxford University Press, 2011), as well as two other books: Competing for Knowledge: Creating, Connecting, and Growing (Routledge, 2007) and The Global Competitiveness of Regions (Routledge, 2014).
