Personal profile

Biography

I am an applied mathematician with a background in statistical physics. My research focuses on the intersection of statistical physics, Bayesian inference, and principled machine learning to model and understand complex and disordered systems.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Economics and a Master’s degree in Mathematics. I subsequently completed my PhD with a research focus on statistical physics.

After my PhD, I began my academic career as a Research Associate in Mathematics at Aston University. My work there involved applying information theory techniques to develop biological computing devices. Following this, I held a lectureship at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Data Analytics. I joined Aston University in July of 2025 as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics.

My research applies principles from statistical physics and information theory to understand complex biological systems. I use methods such as Bayesian inference, principled machine learning, and combinatorial optimisation to model the structure and behaviour of these systems from data. My work has a particular focus on modelling the emergent structure and function of complex biological networks, contributing to fields like computational neuroscience and systems biology.
