Biography

Dr Bellary is a Reader in Metabolic Medicine and a Hon Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. His clinical  expertise includes management of obesity and diabetic kidney disease. He is the lead for Diabetes Renal Service and has previously developed new models of diabetes community care. He is also the Associate Medical Director for community services and the chair for Pan Birmingham Diabetes Clinical Network.

Research Interests

Dr  Bellary's research interests include  epidemiology of type 2 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and  ageing, diabetic kidney disease and new therapies for  type 2 diabetes. He was one of the lead investigators of UK  Asian Diabetes Study. He is the UK  chief investigator for a number of  trials in type 2 diabetes and has been involved in EU led studies on frailty.
