Professor Yuchun Xu is the Chair in Manufacturing, Head of Smart Systems and Manufacturing group, Leader of two interdisciplinary research themes Digital Engineering, and Circular Economy at Aston University. His research is mainly focused on Smart Manufacturing, Remanufacturing, Life Cycle Engineering and Cost Modeeling/Analysis. Prof Xu’s research is sponsored by EPSRC, Innovate UK and Horizon EU/2000, and EU FP7 etc. with total grant portfolio of over £46M. His research closely links with industry by developing digital solutions and tools to address the interdisciplinary challenges associated with the full product life cycle spaning product design, development, manfuacturing, maitenance, remanfuacturing/life extension, and recyle/disposal. His research well aligns to Digital Manufacturing, Sustainable Manufacturing, Life Cyle Engineering, Asset Management, and Circular Economy. Professor Yuchun Xu's industrial collaborators include Manufacturing Technology Centre, Airbus, Rolls-Royce, QinetiQ and Network Rail etc.
Professor Xu has published over 80 papers largely in leading international journals. He is the Member of EPSRC & STFC Peer Review College, the editorial board member and peer reviewer of several leading international journals. Prof Xu regularly serves as the technical and programme committee member of leading international conferences.
Professor Xy is the General Chair of the 28th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC2023) to be held on 30 Aug - 1 Sep 2023 at Aston University.
Professor Xu’s research interests include Digital Product Development & Manufacturing, Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing, Automation and Robotis, Smart Remanufacturing & Life Extension, Life Cycle Engineering and Optimisation, Cost Modelling & Engineering Economic Analysis.
