N2 - This special issue of Strategic Change explores how firms develop and deploy dynamic capabilities to achieve superior international performance in today's volatile global environment. Building on the foundations of Teece's dynamic capabilities framework, sensing, seizing, and transforming, the issue features six empirical and conceptual studies spanning diverse contexts, including SMEs, Born Globals, and large firms across the United Kingdom, China, Brazil, Colombia, and Spain. The selected papers collectively underscore the importance of capability bundling, innovation as a performance mediator, strategic knowledge protection, and context-specific configurations. Methodologically, the issue advances the field through the use of configurational analysis, frameworks for IP risk mitigation, and cross-sectoral applications. Key insights emphasize how dynamic capabilities enhance resilience, foster innovation, and enable firms to adapt strategies in international markets. The special issue concludes with a forward-looking research agenda that highlights the need to examine digital enablers, institutional contexts, and managerial microfoundations to further understand strategic adaptation in dynamic global landscapes.
